I was awestruck to see the beauty and energy of this place. It seems to be a cultural hub of all the tribal communities of Nilgiris. The nature, the community and the people have merged and come together like a beautiful identity of the Nilgiris. I salute the spirit of this place. Thank you Anu and iqbal for inviting me. I am taking with me a piece of this beautiful district, love of the people but I am leaving my heart behind.

Being honest, ‘RAINBOW’ is the only college festival in my life where I’ve learned a lot about life and enjoyed to the core. This festival tested my endurance, passion and interest in something I really wanted to do for so long. Thanks to LLA for this opportunity.

For me, tribal fest was the first experience in my life. Interacting with them, learning about their culture, tradition, art, dance, etc. was amazing.Visiting their place was pure fun as well as very informative. Trekking, climbing, walking for such long distances with your full gear, was a whole new thing. Moreover, we came to meet so many new people and their traditions, jobs, etc.. We all had a really good time. Thank you LLA.

The creative element in a person helps them to understand who they are. There has been a great takeaway which is invaluable from this workshop. I would really like to thank LLA, and the students for creating all this excitement. I am sure life will be different for the children. They will know what to expect from dealing with other people at this age. They will also gain a lot of in-depth understanding of themselves, because LLA has given the opportunity to explore creativity and take it ahead for the rest of their lives.

The workshop was a new experience for me. I have always wanted to work with chidren, to teach them and help them learn something, so this was the perfect opportunity to try that out. I enjoyed teaching the children and was surprised with the enthusiasm and energy the students showed. The sense of pride and satisfaction that I got from seeing the students images is something I really can’t explain.

The students from yesterday were much waiting for Friday to come  as they think that it is their day of being happy and enjoyful. The way Manieesha teaches each step with patience is commendable. The training given now in dance will definitely help us in our school annual day culturals.

After a long time I got an opportunity to interact with these small children –   Initially it was  like an escape from class for them – later as days went by they got so much engrossed in the singing and the interest they showed made us to do more and more for them .On the last day they insisted that they want to do a music performance, come what may and that touched each one of us

Sports is important in our day to day life to be fit. Organizing and running a sports group at a government school can be a challenging and very time-consuming task. But as Light & life Outreach team, we as sports group could deliver and all-inclusive bespoke knowledge about the games in an unique way which fulfilled their needs for games and being with the kids, the team relived their childlike moments.

Kids understood art as an important learning tool in classroom.  Self-expression, freedom of interpretation of art was shown. Usage of colours, textures and use of local material for art was well taken.  Grasping power of the kids is amazing.  Understanding and usage of scale at micro and larger scale was well received.

We learn every time we do something and this time was no different! I don’t know Tamil but was able to read off the people’s emotion and see that they displayed urgency in matters of the government and really believed in voting for a good one. Even at Providence College, the women were very aware of what the citizens needed and were willing to take a stand for it. All these qualities in any citizen may ultimately result in a better government!

I was never into politics. Everyone’s got an agenda and someone or the other’s always trying to promote their party. But it was good that we focused on getting people to vote rather than talk about who to vote for. In addition, being a part of this project got me thinking about politics and political matters that concern the citizens and so on.

Another aspect of my experience was the journalistic approach we had to take in documenting the voice of the people. To be sensitive to the right kind of information and create content that stimulates thought. Being a part of Light and Life Academy is what gave me the opportunity to be a part of this project. Visiting the villages and interacting with the people is what I enjoyed the most!

“My experience with the elders that day brought back memories of the time when my own father was bedridden and physically dependent on others at the house. I have resolved that come what may, I shall always take care of my Mother well and ensure that she is healthy and happy.”

“This was a godsent opportunity for me to let go of my own inhibitions and reach out to people. I was simply excited at getting the chance to also personally serve lunch to the guests. I realised how much we take life, for granted. I hope I put my life to good use.”

“First, I really valued my mentor’s (Kavitha) feedback. She was tough…and spot on. She could identify an error from a mile off!

Second, I also loved the way you made it so convenient for working people like me to carry on with the course.

Lastly, I discovered so many underlying elements that go into a good photograph, just in the process of doing the course. The patience of waiting for the right moment, paying attention to your environment. And the fact that I need every picture to say a story somehow.”
